First we had to clone the existing content and transform the existing .html pages and convert them to WordPress pages. Each listing had its own page and could not be pulled into the new theme except by manually entering each page, including many image files.
We worked around that by re-directing to the old page files from the new site, until we were able to manually add all the current listings to the new site.
In addition, we upgraded the shopping cart to WooCommerce and utilized PayPal for secure payment processing.
We made the site work well on smartphones, since over 60% of visitors were using them to visit the site. Of course, this also met Google’s new standard for responsive websites, adding to overall search engine ranking.
Finally, an extensive 301 Redirect mapping plan was put into effect through the site .htaccess file. All existing pages indexed with Google from the old site seamlessly redirect to the corresponding new page.
As a result, traffic has consistently grown and sales have seen large increase.
