First we had to clone the existing content and transform the existing .php pages into .html pages. Then we were able to take the now .html page files and convert them to WordPress pages. Each listing had it’s own page and could not be pulled into the new theme except by manually entering each page, including many image files.
We worked around that by re-directing to the old page files from the new site, until we were able to manually add all the current listings to the new site.
In addition, we upgraded the way visitors can search for properties by adding a MLS search tool so visitors can search the entire MLS listing for the local market.
We made the site work well on smartphones, since over 40% of visitors were using them to search for property. Of course, this also met Google’s new standard for responsive websites, adding to overall search engine ranking.
Finally, an extensive 301 Redirect mapping plan was put into effect through the site .htaccess file. All existing pages indexed with Google from the old site seamlessly redirect to the corresponding new page.
Early indications are that all traffic has been retained and feedback from site visitors indicates this website has become one of the favorites of people looking for property in Teton Valley, Idaho and Wyoming.
